Like virtually every country in the world, the American crime statistics are rising at a very alarming rate. Possibly some of the main reasons are the rapid rise in population, softer penalties in the court rooms, as the prison system is overpopulated, the worlds financial crises has made so many people unemployed, that some are turning to crime to feed their family, and unfortunately the growing use of drugs, which are now readily available.

In America, there are over 6100 burglaries every day, that is approximately 4 burglaries a second, and that was in 2008.

The rapid increase in burglar and aggravated attacks has prompted a massive demand for burglar alarm systems and personal attack protection items.

Murders have fallen slightly since the 1990's, but it still stands at over 1600 per year, on average, that still equates to over four per day. It is also estimated that a police officer is shot every two days.

Car theft fell between 2007 and 2008 by over 100,000 to just less than 1 million, slightly good news for the insurance industry, but predictions for 2010 indicate that the figure will rise to more than1.1 million vehicles being stolen.
