Need the perfect Burglar Alarm, then ask a burglar. The burglar will know the pros and cons of each burglar alarm, as they have spent years breaking into homes which have burglar alarms already fitted, and know which ones they can disable easily, and which ones they try to avoid. The market is full of all different types of intruder or burglar alarms, so you need to know which one is best for you. I have spoken to "Mr X", a former self employed thief and burglar, who has served his time in prison for his crimes against home owners, he has advised me on some of the better burglar alarms on the market today, and some of the ones which can be disabled within two seconds, and are no good for the homeowner, but are excellent for the would be burglar.

The Burglar

The burglar is a person who does not care about you or your property, he basically wants your money and your property, which he or she will sell for a few pounds, just to get the money for whatever they need. He will cause you hundreds of dollars of damages, just so he could make twenty bucks. First thing to remember, HE DOES NOT CARE ABOUT YOU. An average burglar is in and out of your property within minutes, the longer he is inside your house, the more chance he has of getting caught. If you are in your house and are being burgled, do not try and tackle him yourself, shout, make lots of loud noise, he will go away, if you try and catch him, he may stab you. In some parts of the world, a burglar will put a pan of water on to boil as soon as he enters the house, if you try and approach him in any way, he will throw the boiling water in your face, nasty, but he does not care about you. The second thing to remember is, DO NOT APPROACH A BURGLER, MAKE LOTS OF LOUD NOISES, CALL POLICE.

If you have been burgled, the chances of getting your property back are about 500.000 to 1, they are usually sold then resold within twenty four hours. You can use special ultraviolet pens to mark your property with your details or use the new DNA spray, which sprays your property with your DNA, ingenious idea, but not many police forces will check suspected stolen items for DNA, only finger prints and ultraviolet markings.

 Dummy Alarm Boxes

Quite good when they first appeared, but now every thief knows what they look like and the markings that they have, so now, these types of deterrents are obsolete and useless.

Real Alarm Boxes

Nearly all burglar alarms have one, some with flashing strobe lights on top, this is simply a visual deterrent and a loud noise to attract attention to the house which is being burgled, which is part of what you need in an alarm system. BUT... it has to be as high as possible on the wall, some burglars will spray inside with expanda foam to mess up the electronics or to dim the sound of the alarm, some will also rip the box off the wall and disconnect the electrical and battery supply. The thief who will take the time to do this, really wants to get in.

Outside CCTV Cameras

Brilliant if positioned properly. If they are low, they can be easily smashed down, have the lens spray painted, or even stolen. The CCTV cameras need to be positioned as high as possible, providing they have a good resolution. The thief can only combat this by wearing a mask or ski-mask, which some will do. Do not leave ladders or even mops and brooms outside, the thief will use these to dislodge or move the view of the camera out of his way. These are the CCTV cameras which you can view your property either by phone or by the internet, which is only good enough if you only want to watch the thief trying to get into your home.

External Laser Alarms

External Alarms

These are sensor laser alarms which activate when someone breaks the invisible beam of light. You position these around the outside of your house, near the entrance gate, by where you park your car or by the perimeter walls, fence or trees, then if someone breaks the light beam, you are notified by phone and can see if the perpetrator is friend or foe. which is an excellent early warning system. But then what do you do? Just sit there and watch the thief as he tries to get in, no, this is where you would ring up a neighbour, or the local police and get them to go around to your house. You should always have the number of the local police station or your alarm security company in your phone and written down at home just in case. Some of the best ever external defences are actually naturally grown in the garden, and are cheap, effective and at the same time pretty, Natural Defences against burglers.

 External Nightime Cameras

These are expensive, and so far on the market, the resolution is not excellent, and mistakes in identifying people are to common. Mr X says, with the nighttime cameras, sometimes the thief cannot see them and will continue to try and rob your house, you do not want him near your house. You should install an outside light system which activates when someone goes in front of the sensores, then the normal CCTV cameras will pick out the faces for evidence in case of prosecution or just trying to identify him. You want the burglar to know he is being watched, he may not even bother then, if he tries to burgle your house at night by walking up your pathway and nothing happens, he will think "so far so good" but if the thief walks up your pathway, lights come on all around him, seven times out of ten he would leg it away from your house and look for a softer target.

All these internet alarm companies around you now, should have some of these alarm systems, go to three of four different companies, get the prices, see if they have an offer on, it may mean that the alarm system has been superseded by the latest model with better efficiency, have a look at some, then follow this link to the second and last part of this thief talking documentary, it may save you a fortune, and with the amount of aggravated burglaries on the rise, it could save your life
