Chain link fence, fencing, land separation, animal pens
63Galvanized chain link fence is the most widely used fence on the planet. It is perfect for boundary marking, land separation, pet enclosures, chicken coops, safety fence around a swimming pool. It is designed to withstand very hot and cold temperatures and also to be resilient against a strong wind if erected properly. Used mainly in the country for land separation, you will see chain link fence everywhere you go, around schools, parking lots, zoos, tennis courts and almost wherever a see through separation is required.
Versatility
Chain link fence can be stretched very tight, in Australia they make it so tight that when an ostrich runs into it, the bird bounces back away from the fence, and these birds can run pretty fast. The mesh can be easily cut to enable it to go over or around an obstacle, but still be tight. It is galvanised which means it is resistant to rust for many years depending on the climate. Since it is a fence basically made up of diagonal holes, it allows the wind to freely blow through it and it also allows us to see through it, which is why it is so popular for schools, zoos' and car parks. Chain link fence is also classed as a low to medium security fencing and can have an alarm installed on it.
Statistics
Chain link fence posts can be made for any height, normal heights for animal pounds or land separation is either 1.5m or 2m high. The posts are spaced 3m apart and 30 cm deep into concrete. Supports are needed on corners, ends and intermediate posts to prevent the posts from being pulled out once the fence is being tightened. There are many different types of post, some have holes in for the straining wire to pass through, others have small welded clips on the front for the wires and some have a ridge going from top to bottom. It does not matter which post is used, they all do the same job, although if you mix different types of post, it can look strange when you are finished as each type of post does give a different finish. If you are having a fence put up, decide which side the supports will be on. Consider if someone can use the supports to help them climb over the fence, or if for cosmetic purposes, it would look better from your house to have the posts on the outside.
