Following on from Eileens article about buying tents at the right time..it comes as no suprise to me that you could get a deal at the end of the season. For sure the retailer still made a small profit at £250 or got his cost price back. The profits are high!

My advice is to search around, especially at the end of Summer or Autumn...they may well want to shift the stock. If you want to save, buy one that is from the previous seasons, people like me can get hold of them from wholesalers who buy up the surplus from the manufacturers and offer them to us on a one off ,small quantity basis. If the seller isnt greedy, and you are happy with a 2010/11 model, you can save a lot of money. Retailers dont always tell you their stock is from past seasons anyway yet offer it at current prices. Ask them if its a current model, if it isnt then haggle hard!

Just have a great Summer and enjoy life in your tent, for sure Im going too!..Great to test out my own stuff!Have some fun and freash air one and all

Last year we realised that we were going to need a new tent for the coming year. So 10 days before the end of the Summer season when our local camping shop closes until the following Spring we turned up, found our perfect tent, which normally we couldn't afford as it was around £800-1000 (sorry I can't quite remember the cost) and we asked him how much he could come down on the price .... wait for it .... £250.

Excellent hub with a great deal of useful information! I love the outdoors, but at the end of the day, I'm probably going to be checking into a cabin or a hotel, lol. However, you've almost persuaded me! :D

Thanks for this informative Hub! I went camping over Memorial Day weekend with a tent I borrowed from my parents that we used when I was a kid...the tent barely made it through the night and I almost had a panic attack setting it up! Tent technology sure has changed over the years :)

Solar powered tents are available through very select establishments as they are expensive at the momnet. They have institched solar panels on the roof and provide enough electricity for inbuilt lighting and to power mobile phones and laptop computors at the same time.

Another informative hub! Do you have a lot of knowledge or experience with solar tents?! I didn't even know they existed but if they do I would be very curious to hear how they work, if they are effective or prone to problems. Camping with electricity in an environmentally safe and very minimalist way sounds fantastic!
