Brazil, the Amazon Rain Forest, the World Cup 2014, it doesn't get much better than that. Touring Brazil whilst following your countries victories from city to city. Millions of people from all over the globe will descend on Brazil like locusts on a wheat crop. Hotels, hostels and all sorts of villas and houses are already being booked for the world cup, the biggest event of the year. If you decide to go to Brazil backpacking, you will be in for a special treat, this is a fantastically beautiful country, with fantastic beaches, even though most are on the edge of the Atlantic Ocean.

The Amazon Rain Forest, one of the last great forests of our planet, is a must to visit, over one million eco-tourists visit here every year, staying in small camps, living and learning from the forest. If you are back-packing around Brazil, you must visit the Rain Forests of Brazil, this is a once in a lifetime opportunity. Many students take a year out of university and back-pack around parts of the world, it is a great way to experience other cultures, Australia and India are favourite destinations, as well as Brazil and the Amazon river. Jobs are scarce in Brazil, but if you contact groups like friends of the Earth as you are planning your trip, they will advise you of where you can go and earn your food and bed in return for cultivating crops, helping local communities and protecting the Forests. There are many places in Brazil where this sort of help is required, and it is an invaluable education and experience. It is also advisable to learn about the wildlife there and some of the diseases you may have to have immunisations against.

Whilst back packing, you may stay in secure camping areas or in service stations, the service stations are free and have toilet and shower utilities. Back packing across Brazil, has a more unique experience than if you were driving, you get a chance to feel the local culture, taste the smells, see all the sights, even the non tourist destinations. These are the real ways to explore another country, Brazil has lots of land which has still to be explored, and some of this unexplored land is said to have ancient temples and cultures hidden deep inside the jungle. Some hotels are situated in tree tops next to the Amazon Jungle, called eco-hotels. In Rio de Janeiro, go to the top of Corcovado Mountain and stand under the world famousChrist the Redeemer Statue, and stand in awe of some of the most breathtaking views in the world, visit Minas Gerais, the countries most abundant area for gold and diamond mines, pan the local rivers and search for your own diamonds. Brazil has many hidden wonders, with many World Heritage sights including many 300 year old colonial buildings and museums through out the country.

 Hostels

There are many approximatelyeighty youth hostels in the states of Brazil. Many of thse provide multi-bed rooms with between four and nine beds to a single room, many are bunk beds, these rooms will cost you as little as $5 per night, and includes nothing but your bed, no TV, no breakfast, just your bed and the shared use of toilet facilities. They do have sinks and showers as well, but some do charge for the use of the shower.

Prices for a small guest house can be as little as $10 per night, per person, this is a more private area and includes sole use of a bathroom, approximately four beds, although if there is room, you could ask for more. There are many houses with signs saying room for rent, these are just family homes with a room to rent, basically, just like a normal bedsit. But always be on alert, Brazil is not one of the safest countries in the world.  It has been known for tourists to be offered a taste of culture by an stranger offering you to taste some foreign food from a late night street vendor, you wake up an hour later minus your passport, phone, and anything else you had with you.
