Male Midlife Crisis, What is a midlife crises?
75The expression "Midlife Crises", was first documented in 1965, and was a prayer answered for those men who needed an excuse to go off the rails. The term midlife crises, describes a fictional period of time, usually around the thirty five to forty five year age, when the male has just realised that old age is creeping up on him, and maybe he cannot now do the things he used to do, when he was younger. Most physiological physicians say that less then 10% of males have a midlife crises, as it is called, most men just use the excuse to do something they have always wanted to do, or as an excuse to get out of something that they have done.
Alleged Causes of Midlife Crises Syndrome
As every person is different, each man reacts differently to certain circumstances and situations, but at the end of the day, no matter what they have done, they nearly all have one thing in common, they will say it is not their fault, it is the midlife crises.
Younger Girls
When men reach that certain age, a time when they still look at younger girls, giving them the eye, and the younger girls return the look with a cold stare that could freeze the nuts off of a donkey because the man is to old, that can be classed as a midlife crises. The man has discovered that he is no longer the dashing handsome man he used to be, but rather a balding, pot bellied, older gentleman, this is depressing to man who used to boast about his sexual prowess. The fact that he has just realised that he is now in a different age group, is a bitter blow to his self esteem, but, it happens to everybody, male and female.
Extra Marital Affairs
These unfortunately happen at any age, and within any time frame in a marriage. So blaming an affair on mid life crises is really unjust. Men of the middle age, say between 35 and 45 years of age, will stray with other women for a few basic reasons. One is to prove that they can still "pull" a woman, it is a primal instinct built in to us, men like to think that we are all gods of love, and every woman wants us. Another reason is if our marriage is stale or just plain boring, men like sex, men absolutely adore sex, and for us, the more the better. If we cannot get this sexual release at home, eventually we will need to release this tension some where else. We will put all the excuses down to a mid life crises, but only if we are caught.
Death in the Family
Although having a death in the family can be very upsetting, it would be upsetting at no matter what age you are. Very young children have been known to go off the rails after the death of a parent, so this cannot be classed a midlife crises. Some men may see it as the beginning of the end, if it is their parents which have died, as they are now approaching old age themselves. This is possibly depression more than a midlife crises, and may result in heavy drinking, and possibly a need to relive old memories where the parents were concerned.
Becoming Unemployed
This is always a kick in the pants. Not knowing where the next lot of money is coming from, not being able to work out how to avoid being evicted or feeding the children. This is down to anxiety and stress and can result in severe depression. The feeling of being useless as most companies usually hire younger men is again very depressing and can make a man feel like he is letting his family down.
Children Leaving Home
Once the last of the little nippers has flown the coop, most people may celebrate and begin to enjoy life, maybe travelling to all those far off places they never got a chance to visit because they had children. But it can leave a big hole in the normal life they have led. They now have to adjust to an emptier house, but it is usually more painful for the maternal mother.
Some Symptoms of a Midlife Crises
Your man may develop some slight symptoms which are easily identifiable if he is entering a stage of midlife crises. He may spend a bit more time in the bathroom, trying to comb his hair over a bald spot, or even dying it a more youthful color. He may be starting to wear trendier clothing in a bid to look younger than he actually is, by about twenty years. If a man is single he will try dating younger women just to make them selves feel young, or he will make that ultimate purchase of a boat or an amazing car which can turn heads in the street. Alcohol abuse and depression are also symptoms, but this again could happen at any time in their lives. The male may want to relive his youth by organising a road trip for him and a mate, or just going to visit places he knew when he was younger, even his old schools.
What to do about a man and his Midlife Crises
If a man has severe problems classed as a midlife crises, there is only so much you can do. If he has cheated on you, it is up to you, if you want him back in your life again, that decisionis down to you. If he is continuallydrinking, you may try and coax him away from it or seek help from alcohol groups, but it should not really come down to that. If he feels the need to travel, travel with him, or just wait till he comes back, most men need their women and they return with their tails between their legs. Reassure him as you would like to reassured, he needs you as much as you need him.
