Modern Pirates, Carjackers

Modern Pirates, Carjackers, the scourge of the inner city roads and highways, the vicious, aggravated car thieves that can turn a simple car journey into a hellish ride of terror. The carjackers of today are not the debonair swashbuckling pirates of by gone eras, there is not a trace of humanity in those dark threatening eyes as you stare into the face of a would be killer who has a sharp blade or a gun to your head. There is no compassion from your carjacker, if your car door is suddenly swung open and your brain is on fire as his hands roughly grab you by the hair and drag you out of the car, his foot smashing into your face to assist you in keeping down on the road. There is no remorse as he drives off in your car leaving you bleeding on the road, panic stricken and in shock, there is no concern over any medical problems you have if your medicines are in the car, or if your baby is on the back seat, don't worry, he will dump your baby, bewildered and screaming, on the road three blocks away.

Car jacking is a rising crime in every country in the world. The term car jacking covers a few different types of thefts, such as actually stealing the car whilst you are in it by force, or stealing your car if you have just stepped out of it and left the key in it. Other types of car jacking are if you are physically attacked or robbed whilst in your car, this is usually through the side windows, which are either open at the time or the carjacker smashes through them. Most types of car jacking involve some kind of assault or threatening behaviour and intimidation. There is no difference if a male or a female driver is in the car, car jacking happens to both sexes without discretion, and it also happens if there is a passenger in the car as well.

Petrol Stations and Double Parking

There are many car jacking from parked cars with no occupants, this is because trusting people will nip out of their car for less than a minute to run into a shop or to pay for petrol, leaving their car doors unlocked and sometimes leaving the key in the ignition. This will result in the car being stolen, or items being stolen that are visible and left on seats such as handbags or laptops.

Smash and Grab

A very common occurrence, this is where the car jacker will smash either of the side windows and grab what he can. Some times they will smash the drivers side window, causing the driver to shy away or duck down, and then force them by knife point to hand over money or valuables. This can happen anywhere from stopping for a red traffic signal to slowing down to park or take a corner.

 The Con

Many rental cars are subject to this car jacking con, the car jacker will tail you for a while then either as you are driving, will flash his lights to attract your attention or pull up along side you and indicate to the rear of your car that there is a problem. If you stop or pull over, you will usually be robbed. Another method is to puncture one tyre of your car with a small hole which lets the air out slowly, they will follow you until you pull over to change a flat tyre, then they will pull in behind you to offer assistance, again, you are about to be robbed.

The Diversion

If a lady with a low cut top is close to your window and is acting flirty and in need of assistance, her partner in crime is possibly on the other side of the car waiting to open the door and grab what he can. Even if you are out shopping, a person may stop you by your car as you are loading shopping and ask for directions, as you are speaking to him / her, their accomplice is robbing what ever he can from the car.

 Steaming

This is where you are sitting in your car and all of a sudden there are loads of car jackers assaulting the vehicle at the same time, either smashing the windows or opening the doors and dragging you out, this is designed to completely terrify you into submission so as they can steal the car or to rob you with no retaliation.

 Car jacking has resulted in the fatal killing of several drivers and/or passenger of the vehicle every year, and is a growing crime. If your car is stolen, it may be in a chop shop within the hour, or it may of just been hijacked for the carjackers to go for a joy ride or used as a getaway vehicle. Most car jackings are for the sole purpose of robbing cash, computers or what ever else they may be able to grab and run off with.

 Try and keep doors locked whilst driving, this will stop carjackers from pulling open the door. There is a clear anti-smash film, which can be put on the side windows, if you have this put on professionally, you will never know it is there and in the vent of someone smashing your window, it will break, but it will stay in position long enough for you make make a speedy exit. If you are driving slowly through an urban area, and you need air through the window, only have it down a little, better hot and safe than cool and very sorry. As always, never have anything of value on show, even whilst driving, put items out of view, in the trunk, under the seat. Even wearing expensive looking jewelery can result in being car jacked, so put it on when you have reached your destination.
