Poisonous spiders and venomous spiders can be found in virtually every country on the planet. Spider bites result in many human deaths annually, and are responsible for thousands of tissue melting sores, lesions, and limb amputations. A simple spider bite from a venomous spider can result in permanent mental disorders, paralysis, or memory loss.

Thanks to the introduction of various anti-venoms, the death toll for human fatalities from a single spider bite has fallen. Unconfirmed reports of deaths from spider bites suggest that anywhere between 50 -100 humans die each year as a result of being bitten by spiders. These numbers include spider bites in tropical climates such as Rain-Forests, and jungle areas.

One of the worlds deadliest spiders is the Brown Recluse Spider. Commonly referred to as the Brown Spider, Recluse Spider, Violin Spider, the Fiddle Back spider, or the Brown Recluse. The pictures on the right show what a single Brown Recluse Spider bite can do to the tissue of human flesh.

The Brown Recluse Spider is actually a shy spider, and will only bite if agitated or threatened. Most bites from this dangerous spider come about whilst the spider is trapped between clothes and is pressed against the skin. The Brown Recluse can be found in airing cupboards, under beds, between soft linen and in discarded clothes on the bedroom floor.

Although native to the USA, variations have been found around the globe. This may be possibly due to being caught up in exported goods or due to global warming and changing migrating patterns.

Venom

The Recluse Spider usually only grows to between 6 - 20 mm, but the venom delivered can be fatal as well as cause massive degenerative tissue wounds. The Recluse Spider bite contains a potentially dangerous hemotoxin venom. The venom destroys soft cell tissue and can leave gaping wounds for months. The initial bite is very rarely felt as the spiders fangs are so small, and they cannot penetrate any fabric.

Most victims do not seek medical attention once bitten, this then leads to the breakdown of tissue cells within the bite area. Other allergic reactions from the spider bite may result in secondary problems elsewhere on the body.

Large spiders may have bigger fangs, but the Brown Recluse spiders can pack a powerful punch in less than a second. Not all Recluse Spiderbites will inject their victims with venom, only a small portion of spider bites will result in lesions similar to the picture of a spider bite above.

After the spider has bitten its' human victim, the person may begin to feel nauseous, start vomiting, break out in small rashes, become feverish, and feel aches and pains in all the muscles of the body. Occasionally, some types of brown recluse spider bites will result in thrombocytopenia, disseminated intrvascualr coagulation and hemolysis, which is basically internal organ damage and then death.

A bite may become itchy within 2-6 hours, worsening over the next 36 hours. This is when lesions and deep wounds will begin to form, occasionally opening a very slow healing wound over 25 cm across. This may happen if medical treatment is not given rapidly after the initial bite.

The Black Widow Spider is a common occurrence around the globe. The bulbous widow spider is responsible for daily spider bites on humans. A typical bite from Widow spiders may result in a persons limb swelling to three times the normal size.

The female black widow spider bite is particularly venomous to humans, unless anti-venom is administered quite quickly. Black widows are very distinctive by the red hour glass shape on their abdomen, although some show two red spots instead, and occasionally, nothing at all.

The female is approximately half an inch long, four times larger than the male of the species. The male is usually eaten either during or after sex by the female. The male black widow is usually a gray or brown in color, but if a male is found in an area, then there is usually a female close by.

Many bites from the sight impaired black widow spider are accidental. The spider may assume that any person maybe its prey in the web and bite instinctively. Hundreds of people have been bitten on the finger after shoving their fingers in the web of a black widow spider, why they do this is beyond comprehension.

A bite from any spider can cause an allergic reaction. This will manifest itself in a different location over the body away from the initial spider bite area. Any type of rash or severe itchiness on a person who has been the victim of a spider bite, should seek medical attention immediately. The spider venom could attack the internal organs causing internal bleeding. paralysis and even death.

The venom from a widow spider is neurotoxin. Neurotoxins attack the nervous systems and the black widow injects one of the most potent types from any animal. This can cause death by asphyxiation as the respiratory systems begins to fail.

After the initial black widow spider bite, localised pain will quickly follow. This is followed by severe abdominal cramps and aching muscles. A weakness or lethargicness may come over the victim. Vomiting, dizziness, chest pain and possible black-outs may follow shortly.

Breathing difficulties will ensueand may seem like cardiac arrest. Not many fatalities are reported from this spider, although there are no certain records. Most deaths occur in younger children or the elderly. If breathing conditions continue without treatment, the whole respiratory system could fail and death will be painful.
