Self Defence classes and courses are a necessary curriculum in the dangerous society that we now live in. Every day, over 2 million reported or un-reported assaults take place in our world, some of these assaults are extremely vicious, leaving the victim hospitalised, possibly comatosed or even dead. Rape is a crime which can leave the victim traumatised for life, never again trusting any male, the victims often become reclusive, a shadow of their former self. Bullying in schools has a detrimental affect on any student of any age group, it affects their studies, their confidence and ultimately, their entire lives. And everyday, there are countless muggings for no more than the few coins which you may have in your pocket, random mindless attacks on innocent people, carried out by vicious thugs with little intelligence and no scruples.

 Self defence classes. This title is exactly what it suggests, they will teach you to defend yourself if you are attacked. Over 500,000 people who got mugged, assaulted and viciously beaten last year, thought that they did not need silly self defence classes, or they did not have the time to attend the once or twice weekly sessions, now they wish they had. All of the self defence classes are designed to make you a fitter and healthier person, in the mind as well as the body. The classes can be fun, fulfilling, and you do meet lots of other people who are the same age group as you, so don't be scared just to approach a school for self defence classes, everybody has to start somewhere. If you have children, start them as young as possible, it will help their confidence, and in this every worsening world, they will need it, if a child is is school and starts to be bullied, they can go through that bullying for years, or, with little training, they can stop it before it has really started. Children constantly feel threatened, help your own children have a normal life, don't leave them to the school bullies.

Karate

 The worlds most widely known Oriental Martial Art. Made famous for children in films like the Karate Kid, and superstars like Bruce Lee. In Karate, there is just as much importance placed on the mind and manners, as there is in the strengthening of your body. "Karate-do", is the full name of Karate, and actually means "the way of the empty hand". Karate schools will teach you how to use every part of your body as a weapon or a defence tool. This martial art does involve the use of staffs or other implements on occasions, but it will teach you to rely upon your own body as the most fearsome weapon which is always at hand.

Tai-Chi

 Another style of a Martial Art. Tai-Chi-Chuan, the full name, translates into "ultimate force". This is a form of self defence which strengthens the body and mind, with slow moving techniques. Tai-Chi Martial Art is performed with slow, graceful movements, using your body as a tool for defence.  Mostly this Martial Art is for the mental strength of a person, but the combat styles of Tai-Chi are of much considerable interest.

Judo

 Another well known and used Martial Art, translating to English it becomes known as "The gentle way". Judo consists of learning how to throw assailant techniques, and how to control an opponent on the ground, similar to wrestling really. As with all martial arts, Judo is about mental state self defence, training your mind to act calm in aggressive situations. Judo may possibly be the most fun of the Martial Arts, as there is more bodily contact and get to throw people around the room.

Wrestling / Boxing

 Wrestling is the Westerns Worlds version of the  Martial Art Judo, whereas you throw your opponent and control them with certain moves into submission. Boxing is a sport which will train virtually every muscle in your body to become stronger yet not over inflated. If you go to the gym and work out many many times, you will get large muscles, but do you know how to use them? Learning to box, will teach that big muscles do not mean everything.

 Please, no matter what the age of your family, try and get them involved in some kind of self defence school, even if you learn off the internet at home, help them to help themselves. If they are not interest at all, try some self defence devices like pepper sprays or hand held tasers.
